Introduction about USB flash drive

2009/8/1

A USB flash drive consists of a PCB board, a chip and the outer shell. USB flash drives are typically removable and rewritable, and physically much smaller than a floppy disk. Most weigh less than 30 g .Storage capacities in 2010 can be as large as 256 GB with steady improvements in size and price per capacity expected. Some allow 1 million write or erase cycles and have a 10-year data retention cycle.  In the market, it is easy to be hassled by the different names which  in fact lead to the sample item. The most popular name is off course USB flash drive. Sometime it is short for flash drive, USB drive, or USB flash by American. In UK, it is named USB memory stick or memory stick for short .It is interesting that Spanish or Brazilian put USB thumb drive as its name. Maybe this is because it is small enough as a thumb and easily removable. In Swiss and some other countries in Scandinavian Peninsula, USB stick is often used.
